CAREER HISTORY
Prior to starting Wellington Associates, Mr. Herrmann held engineering, project, financial and general management positions with a number of companies in the U.S. and Europe.
Most recently, Mr. Herrmann has provided contract engineering services to the consulting division of The Austin Company. As a member of the Austin team, he planned and implemented several distribution and factory material handling projects in the U.S. and England, including a new national distribution center for a global machine drive component manufacturer in Ohio.
At Tompkins Associates, Mr. Herrmann led a team of project engineers in a complex resource requirements analysis and strategic master plan development for a service parts division of a major automotive company. The plan, which proposed a consolidation of eight scattered distribution sites into three facilities, had a projected annual savings of $36 million.
As a project engineer and Manager of Material Handling Engineering at Midas International Corporation in Chicago, Mr. Herrmann was responsible for planning and implementation of all projects in the company's national distribution network. During his tenure at Midas, Mr. Herrmann executed two major distribution center consolidations, equipped and opened seven new regional warehouses, modernized three existing ones, and assisted with establishment of a new national distribution center in Canada, achieving storage capacity gains from 25% to 36%. In addition, he recommended and implemented numerous methods improvement programs which resulted in productivity gains of 19% to 24% and multi-million dollar operating expense reductions. He was also instrumental in implementing the company's first bar-code based automatic data collection system.
As a Chief Design Engineer at Gustav Huhn AB in Stockholm, Sweden, Mr. Herrmann introduced and implemented parts technological and dimensional standardization that reduced the number of carried components for this mechanical rotating shaft seal manufacturer by 40%.
As a consulting engineer at the Institute for Warehousing Development in Prague, Czech Republic, he was involved in contract engineering projects for industrial and commercial clients and in advancing the state of the art in the theory and practice of material handling through government sponsored research projects.
Mr. Herrmann understands the problems faced by today's business managers. This understanding is based not only on his prior associations with Fortune 500 corporations, but also on his first-hand experience from managing a successful turn-around situation at a commercial heat treating company.
