Feasibility Study and Preliminary Planning
Perhaps the most critical part of the project planning process, this is an intensive data collection, data analysis, and design concepts development phase. In addition to defining and evaluating a number of potential design alternatives, this phase may also include the development of investment and operating budget estimates, return on investment analysis, and economic justification of the recommended course of action. The scope of work in this project development phase may vary significantly depending on the size and complexity of the operation, the number of specific questions that need to be answered, and the required breadth and depth of decision-making support. At the end of this phase, when new construction or existing facility expansion are indicated, sufficient functional and sizing information is available to begin the site planning and architectural design work.
